Leadership, business and execution

Middle Management Development – leadership, business and execution

Middle managers stand where strategy has to become action. That calls for more than people management: an understanding of the business, the customer and how decisions become coordinated execution. Cronquist Consult designs each programme around the organisation and what its managers are accountable for delivering.

Who the programme is for

  • Middle managers and department heads accountable for both people and results.
  • Managers of managers who need several teams to move in the same direction.
  • Salaried employees and specialists who have moved from professional expertise into leadership.
  • Managers who must translate a strategy they did not write into clear priorities and action.

Three connected responsibilities

We build programmes around three responsibilities that middle managers need to handle at the same time: creating results through others, understanding customers and the business, and translating strategy into priorities and behaviour people can act on next week.

Strategy only works when the organisation can execute it. The middle-management layer determines whether that happens.

Possible programme tracks

  • Personal leadership, including JTI as a shared language.
  • Communication, feedback and difficult conversations.
  • Team leadership and high shared standards.
  • Process leadership across departments.
  • Business understanding, including the Business Model Canvas where relevant.
  • Change leadership.
  • Customer orientation and customer value, sometimes through a Customer Deep Dive involving the organisation’s own customers.
  • Strategic execution, including execution under pressure.

Designed for your organisation

We do not sell one fixed module programme to every organisation. The number, sequence and emphasis of modules are agreed from the managers’ starting point and what the business needs.

Historically, we delivered a two-year, 12-module programme for salaried managers and middle managers at Christiansen & Essenbæk. That describes one specific client engagement — not a standard product offered today.

Practical application between modules

Modules are distributed over time so that participants can test new behaviour in daily operations. Between modules they work in buddy pairs, complete practical assignments, receive 1:1 coaching and gather feedback from employees and their own manager.

Several programmes conclude with a practical presentation based on a real assignment rather than a written examination.

Documented experience

We have delivered middle-management development in different organisations: an Advanced Leadership track for salaried managers at Christiansen & Essenbæk; a modular programme for eight service managers at Poul Sejer Nielsen Service A/S; repeated team-leader and supervisor programmes at Jobindex; and a four-module programme for new middle managers at e-conomic international A/S, now Visma e-conomic A/S.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a fixed 12-module programme?
No. The two-year, 12-module programme is a historical description of one client engagement. Every current programme is designed for the individual organisation.
How does this differ from general leadership development?
Leadership development is the broader framework for developing a management layer over time. This service focuses specifically on the middle manager’s role in connecting strategy, business, customers, people and execution.
Can the programme be delivered in English?
Yes. We have delivered leadership programmes in English, including in international organisations.
