New leader
New to leadership – a strong start in your first leadership role
When a skilled specialist or colleague becomes responsible for others, the job changes fundamentally. New to Leadership helps first-time leaders through the transition — as a tailored in-house programme, not a fixed standard course.
From specialist or colleague to leader of others
The first leadership role is often difficult because the new leader is still close to the profession and to former peers. What previously created recognition — solving the task personally — can suddenly get in the way of creating results through others.
The programme therefore works with the role, expectations, personal leadership behaviour and the conversations that have to take place in daily work.
Themes typically included
- Role clarity, mandate and expectations from manager, employees and former colleagues.
- Personal leadership and understanding one's own leadership behaviour.
- Communication, feedback and difficult conversations.
- Delegation, prioritisation and follow-up without taking the work back personally.
- Trust, relationships and the shift from colleague to leader.
- Creating results through others and holding direction in daily work.
Built for your leaders and your reality
New to Leadership is not presented as a fixed open course. Content, scope and way of working are agreed from your organisation, the leaders' experience and the situations they face. It can be the first step in a wider leadership programme or a separate internal development process.
Methods from documented leadership programmes
The page builds on experience from existing leadership-development programmes, frontline leadership development, middle management development, Leadership in Practice and use of JTI. It does not add a new standard model; we use the methods that fit the group.
