Success Analysis & High Performance Pattern – find the pattern in what already works

Success Analysis is a structured method for examining situations in which a person or a team actually performed particularly well. The outcome of the analysis is a High Performance Pattern (HPP): the recurring pattern of action and behaviour that characterises you when you succeed.

What is Success Analysis?

The starting point is not: "What do I think I am good at?"

It is: "What did I actually do when I succeeded at something genuinely difficult?"

Success Analysis starts from concrete, demonstrated behaviour and actual results – not from assumptions about one's own strengths. The analysis explores:

  • the challenge and the situation you were in
  • what you actually did
  • what result was achieved
  • which patterns of action and behaviour can be identified
  • which patterns recur across several strong performances

The method and the outcome

The method

SUCCESS ANALYSIS

The structured process in which specific successes are examined step by step.

The outcome

HIGH PERFORMANCE PATTERN (HPP)

The pattern of action and behaviour that the analysis identifies – your personal pattern when you are performing at your best.

A High Performance Pattern is not a personality profile, nor an abstract list of strengths. It is grounded in demonstrated behaviour and in actions that have actually led to success.

From actual success to High Performance Pattern

Success Analysis from actual success through challenge, action, result and pattern to High Performance Pattern (HPP), followed by Identify, Mobilise and Activate.

Why it matters

The purpose is to make successful behaviour conscious and usable. Once you understand the patterns that characterise you when you are at your best, the resources behind them can be mobilised and activated more deliberately in future demanding situations.

From identification to activation

  1. 1. IDENTIFY

Understand the pattern and the resources behind demonstrated success.

  2. 2. MOBILISE

Access the mental state, energy and behaviour that characterise you at your best.

  3. 3. ACTIVATE

Bring those resources consciously into play when a new situation demands it.

Individual and team

Individual level

Specific successes can reveal an individual's recurring High Performance Pattern.

Team level

A team can analyse situations in which it has already performed particularly well. That existing successful team behaviour can then provide input to the team's Shared High Team Standards (SHTS).

SHTS = the standards
A standard describes the behaviour the team consciously expects of one another.
HPP = the pattern
A pattern describes the behaviour that is actually demonstrated and repeated.

SHTS and the High Performance Pattern are not the same thing. Success Analysis can help identify existing successful behaviour, which can inform or raise the team's standards.

How it relates to Inner Readiness

Inner Readiness is the broader capacity to consciously mobilise your resources when the situation demands it. Success Analysis is a method for identifying what has actually worked. The High Performance Pattern is the pattern identified through that process – which can then be mobilised and activated deliberately when it matters.

Knowing your pattern is not enough on its own. The desired behaviour must be practised and reinforced, which we work on through 3H – Head, Hands and Heart.

Success Analysis is part of our work in leadership development, team development and High Performance Teams.
